UrduVerse privacy policy
UrduVerse is an app for learning Urdu. You can use it without creating an account or providing your name or email address. This policy covers the free app, fluencyverse.com, the optional word-a-week email list and messages you send us.
Qubais Hafeez, trading as Fluencyverse, is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact: hello@fluencyverse.com.
The short version
- Your saved learning record is kept on your device. Selected learning metrics are also sent when usage sharing is enabled.
- Usage events use a randomly generated identifier to recognise activity from the same app installation over time. We do not describe these records as anonymous.
- We do not sell your data, show third-party ads, or use your app activity for advertising across other companies' apps or websites.
- The app does not use your microphone, camera, contacts or location permissions. Pronunciation audio is bundled with the app.
What is saved on your device
Your local learning record includes completed lessons, answers and progress needed to resume a lesson, your streak, daily goal, review schedule, preferences and the display name you may enter during setup. The free app does not upload this save file to an account or provide cloud synchronisation. We cannot restore that file for you.
The selected usage metrics below are separate from that save file. They can show us aspects of your learning activity even though we do not hold the complete local record. Your optional display name and the text you type into lesson answers are not included in those usage events. The current app does not include your reason for learning in its analytics calls.
App diagnostics, usage and updates
The released app on a physical device uses the following services. Usage sharing controls PostHog; it does not switch off Sentry error reporting or Expo update requests.
- Crash and error reports: Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., privacy policy). Reports help us find and fix faults. They can contain errors, app version, diagnostic identifiers and device details such as model, operating system, memory, language and time zone. Performance information is sampled for about one screen load in five. The app disables Sentry's default personal-information collection and does not intentionally attach your name or email. Error messages and diagnostic context can still contain information relevant to a fault. Providers necessarily receive a network address when handling a request; this is different from attaching it to a stored error report.
- Usage events: PostHog, Inc. (privacy policy). When usage sharing is enabled, we send app opens, screen views and learning events, including lesson identifiers, lesson scores, completion counts, streaks and review-session counts. Events also include settings such as daily goal, voice, Roman Urdu, beginner assistance, sound, haptics and reminders, plus install source, device model, operating system, app build, and the language the phone is set to. Until the app's first update, events also carried the phone's region (for example en-AU) and time zone; after it they carry neither, though records already sent may still include them. These records are associated with a randomly generated identifier and used to understand course use and improve it. They are not intentionally linked to your name or email. The app disables IP-based location lookup, and our project is configured to discard client IP data. Usage sharing is enabled by default in the current release. Turn it off at Profile → Privacy & terms → Share usage data. Turning it off stops future PostHog collection; it does not itself delete records already sent.
- App updates: Expo (650 Industries, Inc., privacy policy). On eligible launches, the app checks for updates over Wi-Fi. Requests include app version, platform and a randomly generated client identifier. A request may include an error message after a failed launch. Expo also receives the requesting IP address. This service delivers app fixes; it does not receive the app's saved learning file.
Identifiers and associated activity may be personal information even when we do not know your name. None of these services is used by us to sell data or target advertising.
The word-a-week email list
If you subscribe on this website, we collect your email address, submission date and signup source. MailerLite (privacy policy) handles confirmation, delivery and subscription status. Supabase (privacy policy) holds our separate signup record. We use these records to provide and administer the word-a-week emails. We do not link the email list to app analytics identifiers.
The form creates our Supabase record when it is submitted, before confirmation. Confirmation is required before regular newsletter emails are sent; it does not prevent someone from submitting another person's address. If you did not submit or confirm a signup, contact us to request removal.
Use the unsubscribe link in an email to stop newsletter delivery. Unsubscribing does not automatically delete every record held by us or our providers. Subscription-status and suppression records may be retained to honour an unsubscribe and prevent further emails. Our separate Supabase signup record is not automatically removed by the MailerLite unsubscribe link. To request deletion from both services, write to hello@fluencyverse.com. We will explain any information that must be retained and why.
This website and support
Cloudflare hosts and protects the website and provides Web Analytics (privacy policy). Web Analytics uses no cookies or local storage and does not fingerprint visitors. It reports page views, approximate visitor countries and page performance. Hosting and security services also process network requests, including IP addresses.
The site loads Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and request information when your browser fetches a font (privacy policy).
If you email us, we and our email service providers process your address, message and any attachments to respond and handle the issue. Please send only the information needed for your request and avoid sending sensitive information.
Where information is processed
We operate from Australia. Service providers may process information outside Australia, including in the United States; the app's PostHog endpoint is in the United States. Provider privacy notices linked above explain their processing locations and international arrangements. Contact us for information about the locations and transfer safeguards applicable to your information. Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, that requirement applies regardless of where the app is downloaded.
How long information is kept
- Local learning data: kept in the app until you reset the relevant data or delete the app. Copies may remain in device backups controlled by you or your operating-system provider.
- Crash reports and usage records: retention depends on the service and our project settings. The relevant purposes are investigating and verifying fixes to faults, and comparing use of lessons and app versions over time. The duration must be limited to what is needed for those purposes; records are not outside data-protection rules merely because they use a random identifier. Contact us for the retention period applicable to a particular record.
- Update, hosting and website analytics records: the providers retain these for service delivery, security and reporting as described in their notices. Retention can differ between request logs and aggregate statistics.
- Newsletter records: the active subscription is kept while you receive the newsletter. Unconfirmed signup records and our separate Supabase copy can remain until removed; unsubscribe alone does not remove that copy. Limited consent and suppression records may be needed to document permission or prevent further delivery. Contact us to request deletion.
- Support correspondence: kept to resolve your request and, where necessary, retain a record of its resolution, handle a dispute or meet a legal obligation.
Your choices and rights
Profile → Reset local progress clears the app's learning history. Deleting the app removes its local app data; it does not itself delete information already sent to service providers, newsletter records or device backups. Switching off usage sharing does not affect your access to lessons.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, receive portable data, and withdraw consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. You may also complain to the data-protection authority where you live or work; in Australia, this is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, where it has jurisdiction.
Contact hello@fluencyverse.com with a request or complaint. We do not have app accounts, so we may need additional information to locate records associated with your installation and verify a request. We will explain what we can locate and any applicable limitations, rather than assume there is no personal information. We respond within the time required by applicable law.
Where a lawful basis is required, our stated purposes for diagnostics and service security are our legitimate interests in maintaining a reliable, secure service; usage analytics is for evaluating and improving the course. Any separate consent requirement for optional analytics still applies. Newsletter delivery relies on your consent. Support correspondence is used to respond to your request and, where applicable, fulfil legal obligations or protect legitimate interests in resolving issues.
For Californian residents, we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not offer financial incentives for personal information.
Children and family use
Families may use UrduVerse together. The app does not ask for a learner's age, so its diagnostic and usage collection does not automatically distinguish children from adults. The data flows described above can therefore apply when a child uses the app. A parent or guardian can turn off usage sharing in Profile. This setting is not a substitute for any parental consent required by law.
The word-a-week email list is intended for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a child has submitted an email address or other personal information without any required permission, contact us so we can investigate and address the information held by us and our providers.
Future features and policy changes
The current free version has no purchases, account synchronisation or Ask Mano AI tutor. Before introducing features that change how personal information is handled, we will update this policy and provide any notice or consent required by law.
Updates to this policy are dated here. Material changes will be communicated in the app or another appropriate notice. A policy update does not itself authorise a new use of information where consent or another legal basis is required.
